Discussing the differences between using word press vs creating your own website via your own code.

WordPress vs your own creation website by jbick

There are a platitude of options for getting your website online these days. There are plat-forms that do all the work for you like hosting and design. All you do in this case is pick your domain name, sometimes a subdomain of said plat-form, and enter your data. If your needs are simple like just a few photos and a phone number this option may work for you.

As needs get more sophisticated, such plat form may not be sufficient. In the case of needing a lot of pages or content such as for e-commerce a CMS OR a lot of code may be needed. There are a number of CMS but this post will focus on the most notable which is Word Press.

Word Press is capable of pretty much every need there is. There is a template and or a plugin for every situation, and for the most part it is more than sufficient. Unfortunately, word press is a beast in and of itself. While there is a plugin for everything, they come with a cost and very complicated code under the hood.

While WordPress itself is completely free, there is an entire market place for individual specific needs for a word press installation. Weather it's WooCommerce for e-commerce or Yoast SEO both have advantageous features for free but to truly gain full benefit comes with a cost. WooCommerce does actually work quite well for DIY e-commerce -- be it physical items that you ship, digital items for download, or even affiliate products.
